To the moon and back

Third GWcycles campaign sets new record with 810,500 kilometers cycled by the Gebrüder Weiss community

The third edition of the Gebrüder Weiss campaign GWcycles came to a successful conclusion at the end of September 2024. Over the course of six months, more than 600 participants came together to cycle a total of 810,500 kilometers. Together, we achieved our ambitious goal of "Cycling to the moon and back". The 2024 cycling campaign enabled Gebrüder Weiss to plant 7,000 new trees in the corporate forest in Nicaragua.

Around the world together

The repeated success of the GWcycles campaign is based on the strong commitment of the international Gebrüder Weiss cycling community. More than 600 cyclists around the globe took part to reach this year's ambitious goal. Impressions from participants all over the world make it clear that sustainable mobility is fun. And that together we can achieve a lot.

With more than 20,000 kilometers cycled, Janusz Mucha (Yankooo) from Poland was able to secure the GWcycles winner's jersey again this year - an incredible achievement! As part of several challenges, all participants had the chance to win useful prizes such as bicycle pumps and water bottles. A gravel bike will be raffled among the top 300 participants.

"It’s clear that bicycle mobility is growing in popularity and rightly so: Cycling gives people a chance to enjoy being active and boosts both personal health and climate protection. I’m particularly pleased that we were once again able to encourage so many people to do their best to support a good cause. Thank you to everyone who got involved!"

Corporate Forest in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the countries most affected by the climate crisis. While reforestation projects seek to mitigate the effects of floods and droughts, sustainable management of these new forests also creates additional sources of income, improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The 2024 cycling campaign has enabled Gebrüder Weiss to plant 7,000 new trees in the corporate forest in Nicaragua. A total of 19,000 trees have been planted since the campaign was launched in 2022. Once fully grown, these trees will absorb around 285 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere per year.
